The Mayor of London has announced the last batch of tickets for London's world-famous New Year's Eve fireworks will go on sale this week.

The final release of tickets for the display will be available from midday on Friday (December 1) after the first set sold out earlier this month.

More than 3,000 people – from pyrotechnics to stewards – will work together to ensure the display at the London Eye is “the most dazzling on the planet”.

The event will feature more than 12,000 fireworks, 2,000 lighting cues and 30 tonnes of equipment on three barges on the River Thames .

While Big Ben's “bongs” have fallen silent during renovation works this year, the bell will sound once again to kickstart the fireworks and the New Year.

Speaking ahead of the final ticket release, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “London's New Year's Eve fireworks display is the best in the world and the atmosphere on the banks of the Thames is always incredible.

“This year's display promises to be one of the best yet with Londoners from all backgrounds and visitors from every corner of the globe ringing in the New Year together, showcasing London at its open and diverse best.

“My number one priority is the safety of Londoners and visitors to the capital and, as always, the police and emergency services will be working closely with organisers to ensure the evening's festivities run smoothly and are safe for everyone to enjoy.”

Typically, the final batch of tickets sell out in a matter of hours and those without a ticket to the fireworks will not be able to enter the viewing area.

The event attracts more than 100,000 spectators annually and is watched by over 12 million broadcast viewers on TV, which “promotes London as the global capital of tourism and culture”.

The Mayor of London added: “Whether you're joining the thousands of revellers by the Thames, or watching the display from the comfort of your own home – I hope you enjoy the spectacular show.”
