The annual Mercury Prize awards ceremony is nearly upon us, which means we'll soon know what is 2016's Album of the Year.

The award will this year be celebrating its 25th birthday at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith , on Thursday September 15.

12 nominees have been chosen, and the awards ceremony will see many of them perform, before one of them is crowned as creating the best album of 2016.

The judging panel said: "This is music to make sense of our unsettling times - heartfelt, angry, thoughtful and thrilling. The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize 'Albums of the Year' are marked by their musical ambitions, unexpected instrumentation and breathtaking arrangements."

But how can you see the awards? And who exactly is nominated? Here's everything you need to know.

Who will be performing on the night?

The majority of the 12 nominated acts this year will perform during the awards ceremony, including Skepta, Kano, The 1975, Laura Mvula, Jamie Woon, Michael Kiwanuka, Bat For Lashes, ANOHNI, The Comet Is Coming and Savages.

There will also be a special performance by Michael C Hall, who will perform the title song of David Bowie's musical Lazarus , as a tribute to the late musician. Hall played the lead role the musical when it premiered in New York.

Where can I watch the awards?

BBC Music will be providing live coverage of the Awards on BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music.

BBC Four will broadcast the ceremony live in an hour-long special, presented by Lauren Laverne, from 9pm to 10pm. The coverage will include some of the performances and the announcement of the winner.
