Every parent has asked their child at one time or another NOT to jump in puddles.

But guess what it’s a whole lot of fun and to prove it the London Wetland Centre are hosting the first ever puddle jumping competition during the February half-term.

So children grab your wet weather gear and wellies and have a splashing time creating the biggest, most stylish shapes, at the championships to be held between February 13 to 21.

Dave Green, centre manager at London Wetland Centre, said, “This will be a lot of fun and we’re sure that children who love puddles will grow up to be adults that enjoy the outdoors.

“So through the Puddle Jumping Championships we’re gently nurturing a love that may help protect wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them for years to come.”

Prizes are up for grabs including a super-splasher each day with a champion to be chosen at the end of the wet and wild week, plus the chance to go on to become the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Big Splash national champion.

The competition is free to enter and starts at 2.30pm daily but contestants can arrive earlier to get in some practice jumps.

The WWT London Wetland Centre is located at Queen Elizabeth’s Walk in Barnes.
