Filming for a comedy adaptation of the much love tale of Sherlock Holmes is set to take place at Hampton Court Palace according to Get Surrey .

It's time for you to get celebrity spotting , as Hollywood stars Will Ferrell and John C Reilly are understood to be filming at the west London palace at the beginning of February.

The two actors take on the leading roles, with Ferrell playing the ever popular Holmes and Reilly taking on Dr Watson.

Most recently, the detective duo have been brought to life by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the popular BBC series.

61-year-old Richard Parker from Thames Ditton came across crew members setting up, when he was walking by the palace on the morning of Sunday January 22.

He said: “One of the guys told me they were preparing to film a comedy version of Sherlock Holmes, with Will Ferrell, all the preparation was happening in the very formal gardens between the river and the palace.

“Apparently they were going to drain one of the ponds and then cover it over, putting a marquee on top for some kind of wedding or event scene."

Filming at the location is set to start on Sunday February 5, until Thursday February 9, with an additional day of filming scheduled for Sunday, February 12.

Ferrell and Reilly have worked together before

The duo were seen filming scenes for the film in Soho earlier this month and in December last year.

And the pair are no strangers to each other, they have previously worked alongside one another in comedies, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers.

Holmes and Watson, which is set to be released in 2018 is being written and directed by Etan Cohen and also features famous actors such as Ralph Fiennes, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie and Rob Brydon.
