This year, over 36,000 people descended on the capital to run the world-famous London Marathon!

The event was truly exciting, and the atmosphere was communal and supportive, with so many people raising money for brilliant causes.

If all of this excitement has got you motivated to run next year, there are a few ways in which you can register to run. Here are our tips on registering for next year's race.

When does it start?

There are different start times, and different starting points, to make sure there are not too many runners on the course at the same time.

  • 09:00: The Virgin Money London Wheelchair Marathon for Men & Women – Blue Start.
  • 09:05: IPC Athletics Marathon World Cup – Blue Start.
  • 09:20: The Virgin Money London Marathon Elite Women – Blue Start.
  • 10:10: The Virgin Money London Marathon Elite Men, British Athletics, England Athletics Championship for Men & Women – Blue Start.
  • 10:10: The Virgin Money London Marathon Mass start – Blue, Green and Red Starts.

How do I enter?

The most common way is to enter the London Marathon ballot, with results usually announced around October.

Failing this you may be able to secure a charity entry place.

The entry system for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon will open online on Monday, May 4 2015 at www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com.

Thinking about racing for a charity?

Some charities ask for a registration fee and a pledge to a raise a minimum amount before being offered a guaranteed spot.

The registration fee is normally around £50-£100, while some charities ask for around £2,000 minimum to be raised for their respective causes.

Deferred entry

Any runners that have unfortunately had to withdraw through illness or injury for this year's race are allowed to carry their place over to the 2016 London Marathon.

However, anyone looking to do that must do so before 5pm on June 20. You can contact the helpline for more information on 020 7902 0200.
