If you are thinking of your next challenge, a history themed half marathon could be for you.

The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a new, closed road charity run taking place for the first time on March 25 2018.

More than 5,000 people out of the 10,000 places secured their spot for the 13-mile route which goes through the City of London and Westminster.

Created by baby charity Tommy's, the aim is to raise £4 million for more than 50 participating charities.

On race day, runners will start on Pall Mall, and have fabulous views of London’s most iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye and finish by Downing Street.

The event celebrates London's quirky and hidden history, giving participants the chance to explore the capital while running a route like no other.

"The London Landmarks Half Marathon is going to be a great day out,for participants to enjoy running past so many iconic landmarks," said Jane Brewin, Chief Executive at Tommy’s.

"Visitors can enjoy the unique run atmosphere and entertainment around the course showcasing London’s culture and talent."

Runners will experience a bowler hat send-off with the race starting at the world’s oldest hat shop Lock & Co.

From Victorian postmen to suffragettes and Roman Gladiators, themed cheer stations will also give runners and spectators a glimpse into London's history.

At the finish line, participants will receive their medal from a famous character from the city’s history such as Dick Whittington and his cat or Henry VIII.

Public entry to the London Landmarks Half Marathon has now sold out, but many charities still have spots available including Tommy’s, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Cancer Research UK, Mind, Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and Make-A-Wish.
