Kew Gardens is offering discounted entry to visitors from surrounding boroughs every Tuesday in a new pilot scheme.

From this week - April 21 - anyone living in Richmond, Wandsworth, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, or Kingston can get in to the world-renowned botanic gardens for £11 on a Tuesday, compared with the usual £15 admission fee.

Those hoping to take advantage should bring proof of residency - like a council tax bill or leisure card - to the gates of the attraction in Kew, just over the river from Brentford.

The offer comes as the gardens are bursting into bloom, with cherry blossoms, magnolias and camellias contributing to the riot of spring colour.

A spokeswoman at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, said: "As part of our commitment to invest in our relationship with the local community, we have decided to introduce this pilot for residents in Richmond Upon Thames and boroughs that are immediate neighbours.

"The gardens are bursting into spring life and we have an exciting summer programme, Full of Spice, planned which we hope will inspire local residents to make full use of this discount and come and visit Kew."
