A three day festival aimed at engaging children with the world of science has opened up at Kew Gardens .
The Science Festival is home to everything from cauliflower cloning to microscopic gardens where children and adults alike can get a hands on experience into the science behind plants.
It is the second time the festival has graced the gardens at Kew, following a successful launch in 2016.
The festival is also a chance for the scientists at Kew to showcase their latest lab work, and with more than 200 scientists and work spanning 110 countries from Madagascar to Mozambique, they do have rather a lot to shout about.
This year, the festival is focusing on the importance of conserving the world’s plant biodiversity and bringing to life the value of plant and fungal science.
Director of science at Kew Gardens, professor Kathy Willis, said: "The Science Festival is our chance to lift the lid on some of Kew’s extraordinary science in a fun and interactive way.
"We also hope to inspire youngsters to consider studying and building a career in science and conservation.
"Above all, we want visitors young and old to have fun and enjoy a day in the Gardens trying out all the exciting activities on offer."
Those visiting will be able to try their hand at digitally scanning trees, measuring genomes inside plants and of course, the intriguing cauliflower cloning.
There will also be opportunities to go behind the scenes at Kew’s Tropical Nursery which houses an array of exotic and rare plant species and visitors can also enjoy tours of the Herbarium, home to the preservation of around seven million plants.
Entry into the Science Festival is included with a standard ticket into the gardens, priced online at £15.50 for adults, £2.50 for children aged 4 to 16 and free for under 4s.
The science marquee is located by Kew Palace, close to the Elizabeth Gate entrance.
