Celebrating the life and music of the legendary Matt Monro, a UK tour of The Matt Monro Story is coming to west London.

After wowing the crowds at the Richmond Theatre earlier this month, Matt Monro's son is returning to the capital with a show at the Beck Theatre, just one of 35 performances across the UK.

But this is not just your average tribute act, the show will take an exclusive look into the private life of the musical legend, as told by his son, Matt Monro Jnr.

Fresh off the back of his performance in Richmond, Matt told getwestlondon: "What I realised was that everybody, even the staunch Matt Monro fans, they know the name, they know the music, but they know nothing about dad offstage, they don't know anything about him.

"So I wanted to do his life story, which has never been done before, from the time he was born until the time he died."

Matt Monro, who made 100 million sales in his lifetime is well known for many songs including the hugely popular "Born Free" and "Yesterday".

The musician, who died in 1985, was also the first singer to perform on a James Bond Film, with the song "From Russia With Love".

The show has been a year in the making, and features a narrator who tells the life story of the singer, with his son singing the songs as they were originally sung by Matt Monro.

Audience members will also get an exclusive look at home videos, enabling them to glimpse into the private life of the star when he was at home with his family.

Matt Monro Jnr says it is an emotional journey.

He said: "I duet with my dad on stage.

"It is a very emotional show for me and I can only tell you that I've got a defence mechanism and I can always hold it back, when it gets too much for me, I can change the subject.

"But I can't do that on this show because you can't stop the show or change the story."

He added: "I just broke down in tears on the opening night, it is emotional, but it's also so loving."

"It's one way of saying finally goodbye to my dad after 30 odd years and I think if my dad was around, he'd be happy because he would like to say thank you to the British public."

You can catch The Matt Monro Story at the Beck Theatre in Hayes on Wednesday, February 22.
