The origins of the Feltham Young Offenders Institute (FYOI) will be the first topic of discussion for 2015 by the Hounslow and District Society group.

Lecturer James Marshall, Hounslow's local studies librarian will tell the history of Feltham's Middlesex Industrial School which can be traced back to the 1850s.

He will talk about the school's successors from 1859 to 2014 and give a vivid portrayal of a boy's life in the reformatory school in the 1890s accompanied by images.

The Feltham Industrial School which was started for juvenile offenders and provided training in education and work is a timely topic as the FYOI has recently been in the news following a damning report which has highlighted the increase in gang violence and 'unpredictable and reckless' violence.

The meeting will take place at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 7.45pm.

To attend £2 each for non-members.

Everyone is welcome.
