We want you to put names forward for the Harrow Heroes 2014 awards which highlights the borough's best and most deserving volunteers.

Each year the council and the Harrow Observer team up to uncover and publicise those who give up their time to make a big difference to their own community and encourage others to do the same.

This year's Harrow Heroes, supported by the Edgware and Stanmore Rotary Club, will feature six categories that you can nominate your local hero for, and judges will also team up to decide one overall winner.

Ann Groves, who was crowned overall winner last year for the work she does with Harrow Association of Disabled People and other organisations, said: “There are hundreds of people in Harrow who do volunteering work and are making a real difference in their communities.

"Some people have been involved in activities for years and years and to be publicly thanked and recognised is wonderful for them, and it is absolutely right that we do so.”

The awards ceremony will be held at Harrow Arts Centre, in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End at the end of the year.

Marianne Locke, divisional director for community and culture at Harrow Council said: “Volunteers often work quietly in the background, doing vast amounts for their community and never asking for recognition or applause.

"But that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it and these awards are just one way that we can give back to dedicated volunteers.”

Anyone who lives or and volunteers in Harrow or for a Harrow-based organisation and can be nominated if they have been volunteering within the last year, apart from in the lifelong category.

Those not eligible for nomination are previous Harrow Heroes award winners and Harrow councillors.

Nominate your hero using the form before Monday, August 18.
