Harrow 's half marathon is back after more than a decade's hiatus - and an MP hopes you'll join him for a run.

The 13.1 mile race will take runners on a tour of the borough on Saturday September 17, passing iconic landmarks, buildings, and open spaces.

The event will start and end at Harrow School , Harrow-on-the-Hill, so runners will have to brace themselves for a steep incline.

The route will pass iconic landmarks, the bustling town centre and open spaces

It begins with a challenging trek uphill, and ends with a 400 metre steep downhill section onto the Harrow School playing fields.

Gareth Thomas , MP for Harrow West, will be taking part in order to raise money for Harrow Food Bank and Spirewatch.

Gareth Thomas MP will run the Roger Bannister Family Mile Race

He told getwestlondon : "It’s great news that the Harrow Half-Marathon is back after a long absence, and I’m delighted to have worked with Harrow Athletics Club, Harrow Council and a number of businesses and community groups to help make this happen.

"Unfortunately the surprise election put paid to my training schedule, and I’m not sure I’d be able to make it round!

"However, I’ve signed up to take part in the Roger Bannister Family Mile Race.

"Even if, like me, the prospect of a full 13 mile race seems a bit too much at this stage, I hope readers might consider joining up for the one mile race, or coming out to support the runners in what promises to be a great community event."

Previous London Marathon winner, Hugh Jones, measures the route

The Harrow Marathon and Half Marathon were last run on November 4 2001.

This year's race was measured by previous London Marathon winner, Hugh Jones, who has measured every Olympic course since Atlanta 1996.

The race is being organised by Harrow Athletics Club, Active Training World and Harrow Council.
