London's answer to the London Marathon on water - the Great River Race - will see around 300 crews from across the globe take part in the rowing spectacle.

Now in its 27th year and an established event in the sporting calendar, the gruelling 21.6-mile course attracts a mix of both the true racer and leisure rower.

With a minimum of four oars or paddles and carrying a cox and passenger, sportsmen and women will race upstream from London Docklands through central London to west London including passing Hammersmith Bridge and Chiswick Bridge and onto Ham, in Richmond, to cross the finishing line.

Spectators are invited to watch The UK Traditional Boat Race Championship and enjoy food and drinks, from Chiswick Pier, on Saturday September 12.

With the race setting off at 10.45am, the first boats are expected to pass Chiswick Pier by 12.50pm with the winner arriving at Ham at around 1.45pm.

Chiswick Pier Trust will putting on a barbecue, have a fully-stocked Fuller's bar available, and refreshments for people to dig into while watching the race from 11.30am.
