YOU can see behind the doors of many of Hounslow’s architectural gems during Open House London this weekend.

Grade II-listed Spring Grove House, in the grounds of Isleworth’s West Thames College; St Mary’s Convent, in Brentford; and the Tellytubby-style adobe huts insulating children from the roar of aircraft flying over Hounslow Heath Infant and Nursery School are among the venues across the borough welcoming members of the public inside this year.

HARRY Hill, Joanna Lumley and Cath Kidston are among the big names to have immortalised themselves in miniature for an exhibition at Hogarth’s House.

The 250th anniversary of the artist William Hogarth’s death is being marked at his former country house with a display of self-portraits by contemporary artists and celebrities.

The Small Self, inspired by Hogarth’s own work, features portraits in a variety of mediums, with other contributors including artist Peter Blake, cartoonist Steve Bell and comedian Vic Reeves.

MAKE tracks to the London Museum of Water and Steam, where youngsters will be chuffed to meet Thomas the Tank Engine this weekend.

The little engine with a big heart will be joined by the Fat Controller to recount their adventures together.

Children will get the chance to make a drivers cap and ride on the museum’s own steam locomotive, Thomas Wicksteed.

PICK up gardening tips, along with some fruit and veg, when you meet the team bringing a splash of green to London’s concrete jungle.

Cultivate London, which grows vegetables and flowers on vacant urban land, is inviting people to see its base in Brentford’s Commerce Road.

The charity, which trains unemployed youths in horticulture, will be offering tours, gardening demonstrations and selling plants during the day.

THE history of Cranford Park and surrounding areas will be celebrated in an open-air theatre show.

Wheat to War traces nearly 150 years of history, from the construction of the Great Western Railway and Grand Union Canal to the First World War.

The engineering great Isambard Kingdom Brunel and local war heroes are among the colourful cast of characters in the hour-long drama, featuring music and dance.
