Carol singers will gather round the Christmas tree in old Isleworth this Saturday as Hounslow mayor Corinna Smart switches on the lights.

The illuminations will be among the highlights of this year's Christmas market, which will include 40 stalls inside Swan Court, in South Street, and about 10 selling festive refreshments outside.

Last year's inaugural market attracted more than 2,000 visitors, and publicity coordinator Nowell Anderson said organisers expected this year's to be even bigger.

Children can enjoy rides including a helter skelter and a giant ferris wheel during the market, running from 2pm-8pm, and the chance to visit Santa in his grotto at the Old Blue School.

Crowds will also be able to take a ride on the Woodlands Express land train, ferrying revellers between the attractions, and soak up music from the choir at All Saints Church.

Entry to the market will be free for under-18s, with adults paying £1. All funds raised will be split between three charities: Hounslow Community FoodBox, St Bridget's Tuesday Club and Guardian Angels Animal Support.

There will also be various attractions at Isleworth Public Hall from 3pm, including a singing workshop, a history talk and a preview of a new one-woman show by Teresa Jennings, of the Isleworth Actors Company.

The event is one of the highlights of the calendar of activities organised under the Inspiring Isleworth banner.
