Champion cyclist Chris Froome will ride in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic race for the first time on Sunday July 31 - his last race before heading to Rio for the Olympic Games.

The cyclist won his third Tour de France title on Sunday (July 24) and will race for Team Sky in the RideLondon festival as training for the Rio Olympic Games comes to an end.

Froome, who has not competed in the UK since the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France, headlines the Team Sky squad, which includes Geraint Thomas, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Christian Knees and Dutch sprinter Danny van Poppel.

Thousands to hit the streets for a glimpse of the champion

RideLondon-Surrey Classic race director Mick Bennett said to GetSurrey: "We are thrilled to have Tour de France champion Chris Froome riding for Team Sky at this year’s Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic.

"His performance over the last three weeks has enthralled the country and we are proud Chris has chosen the Classic as his last race before Rio.

"Now British fans have the chance to watch him in action and cheer on the man who has achieved the incredible feat of three Tour de France wins.

"We expect thousands to come out and line the streets of London and Surrey.

"It confirms the important place the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic now holds in the international calendar."

When can you watch him?

The RideLondon-Surrey Classic will take place on Sunday July 31, from 1.30pm to 6.30pm.

The race will see 150 of the world's top cyclists tackling a 200km route through London and Surrey.

Where can you watch him?

The race will be taking place through Westminster , many parts of west London, including Hammersmith , Chiswick and Putney , and through Kingston Upon Thames into Surrey, and then back again.
