One of Brentford's best kept secrets is about to get out as it is set to feature on the BBC programme Bargain Hunt.

Hidden gem The Musical Museum located just a few minutes from Kew Bridge railway station will show off some of its prized possessions on the daytime show on Monday (February 13).

With a vast collection of instruments, a special viewing of three distinctive self-playing musical instruments along with expert advice from museum chairman Michael Ryder will feature in the programme.

It promises to provide a fascinating insight into the early development of automatic musical instruments such as the Nicole Frère cylinder musical box.

It is an early example of a cylinder music box from 1870 driven by a key wound clockwork motor which belonged to a lady from Wembley who had it since childhood.

It arrived at the museum in 1994.

The Britannia, disc type musical box, made in Switzerland by B H Abrahams was sold in the UK through music shops.

It was acquired by the museum in 1964.

The third will be the Celestina paper roll reed organ which is generally regarded as the forerunner of the player piano.

Mr Ryder said: "I hope this programme gives audiences, both local and national, a small taste of the treasure trove of many more (and bigger) magical musical instruments awaiting their discovery at The Musical Museum itself."
