From classic horror films to action-packed blockbusters, West London is home to a wide-raning cinema history.

Ealing Studios is famous for being at the heart of the British film industry but you may not have guessed which movies were made in a West London location near you.

After Ewan McGregor was spotted shooting his latest film in Uxbridge on Monday September 11 , getwestlondon decided to take a look back at other parts of our boroughs which have caught the eye of Hollywood's location scouts.

Brent

The Theory of Everything (2014)

Scenes from the Oscar-winning Stephen Hawking biopic were shot in filmed at Brent Town Hall.

Lead actor Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for his portrayal of the famous physicist.

The civic centre in Engineers Way, Wembley , was also used to film scenes in October 2013.

Ealing

Calender Girls (2003)

Ealing is steeped in film history with the famous Ealing Studios , but the borough was also a key location for this fun-filled comedy which stars Helen Mirren.

The film follows a group of Yorkshire ladies that decide to make a nude calendar to raise money for charity.

Romantics and comedy fans alike may also be interested to know that Mark and Sophie’s wedding in Channel 4’s Peep Show was shot in St Mary’s Church, Hanwell.

Hammersmith and Fulham

The Omen (1976)

The 1976 horror classic was partly filmed in Bishop’s Park, Fulham, with All Saints church providing the backdrop for the grisly scene in which former Doctor Patrick Troughton is speared by a lightning rod.

Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone (2001)

Part one of the hugely-successful Harry Potter franchise, classrooms at Harrow School were used for magical scenes at Hogwarts School for witchcraft and wizardry.

Hounslow

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

Film crews descended on Syon Park Hounslow to shoot scenes for the fifth installment of the live action smash hit, the Last Knight.

The film starring

Josh Duhamel and Stanley Tucci, and directed by Michael Bay, was released in June 2017.

Chiswick

Never Let Me Go (2010)

The sci-fi-romance's huge onscreen success prompted millions to pick up a copy of the original book.

The story follows students at a very special school, who begin to question their role in the world.

The school interiors were filmed in Chiswick Town Hall. So if you're a fan of the film make sure to have a look around the beautiful building where scenes were shot.

Westminster

Paddington (2014)

Smash hits such as Paddington have been filmed in west London

Based on the beloved children's books by author Michael Bond, the film chronicles a charming, marmalade-addicted bear's journey from Peru to London.

Paddington bear gets his name from Paddington station where he becomes lost and is rescued by the Brown family.

It is no surprise then that scenes from the film were shot in Paddington station itself.

Kensington and Chelsea

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

Thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy wa sshot in west London

The film adaptation of John Le Carre's spy thriller stars Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy and John Hurt.

It chronicles the bleak days of the Cold War espionage and was partly shot in South Kensington's Victoria and Albert Museum .

Richmond upon Thames

Billy Elliot (2002)

With Richmond’s vast choice of rural landscapes, office blocks and retail parks, it’s not surprising that it has been the location of multiple films and television shows over the years.

But it was The Royal Ballet School in Richmond Park that was used in the making of the ballet block blockbuster.

Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually was filmed all over London

Ealing Studios is a British film powerhouse and has produced some of the nation's best-loved pictures, including Richard Curtis's heart-warming rom-com Love Actually.

Key scenes from the film were shot on specially built sets at Ealing studios.

In Notting Hill, 24 St Luke's Mews was used for another Love Actually site, the home of Juliet .

Keira Knightley's character lived on the corner of this fashionable Kensington street.

The ensemble A-list cast won several awards following the film's release in 2003.

Harrow

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)

Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds star in The Hitman's Bodyguard filmed in Harrow, with (L) an extra dressed as a judge and (R) a crane holding lights shining on the Civic Centre

Using Harrow Council chambers as a filming location seems apt for such a story line.

At the time of filming more than 100 extras were on set, dressed in judicial costumes as well as some in what seemed to be special forces military costumes.
