This year's ideas are next years hits. So if you want to be ahead of the theatre curve, the best place to start is Rough Cuts at the Royal Court Theatre.

Tickets are just a fiver; but don't expect a mess-in-progress. These first drafts are rich enough to stand on their own, as well as giving you a rare insight into the different stages of the creative process.

New work by writers Alia Bano, Michael Bhim, Stella Feehily, Daniel Jackson, Norge Espinoza Mendoza and Nina Raine will be on show. And
rest assured, at least one of their names will be here to stay.

This time last year the riotously funny yet heartrending The Girlfriend Experience, by Alecky Blythe, stood out. This September it will open at the Royal Court as a full production.

Rough Cuts at the Royal Court Theatre, Sloane Square, runs from Tuesday July 8 until July 19. All shows s5, 7.45pm. Call 020 7565 5000. See www.royalcourttheatre.com .
