Each week, the Gazette shines a light on one of the borough's more interesting residents or organisations. This week JERRY LYONS talks to Jan Davis, theatrical director of KLOS

The horror, hardships and humour of life during the First World War are being tackled by KLOS Musical Theatre when they perform Oh! What a Lovely War at the Winston Churchill Theatre.

The drama group formerly known as the Kenton Light Operatic Society has been rehearsing since April to put on the musical which was a successful film in 1969 directed by Sir Richard Attenborough.

The fruits of its hard labour can be seen on stage from today (Wednesday) until Saturday.

For the 40 cast and supporting staff, many of whom live in Hillingdon, and the show's director, Jan Davis, the last few weeks have been incredibly busy.

Jan says: "It's all go at the moment. This show is a real challenge but there are moments of humour along with the tragedy.

"There are plenty of musical numbers that people will know

including Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Pack up Your Troubles.

"I think this show will give the audience a good insight into what it was like during very difficult and testing times.

"Every show KLOS do is different and as a director there is a lot to think about. There's the initial castings, then getting props and costumes organised and making sure the actors know their lines and entrance and exit points on stage.

"I have been involved with the group for 36 years and it's something I love. I have made many great friendships over the years through the group and I think for all of us involved it's a hobby we love.

"The cast and everyone involved has put so much effort into this show and I think audiences will enjoy this and have a good night out if they come along to watch." * Oh! What a Lovely War can be seen from October 15-18 at the Winston

Churchill Theatre, Pinn Way, Ruislip. Shows start in the evenings at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinée at 2.30pm. Tickets are £12 (£10

concessions) from the box office on 020 8868 4096.

Look out for a review of the show in the next few weeks.
