BASED on a Greek myth, Oedipus Tyranos explores the roles of fate and free will in a premier production at the Questors Theatre.
Metamorphic Ritual Theatre and Theatre of Ophidia present a provocative re-working of Oedipus Rex, from which it takes its inspiration.
It is being staged for two nights only, taking theatre back to its ritualistic roots with a blend of performance, film projection and dance, immersing both actors and audience in passionate engagement.
The radical interpretation of the ancient Greek tragedy explores a dynamic twist on the relationship between prophecy and fulfilment. Martin Jeffrey, director of Theatre of Ophidia, says: "As the benchmark of tragedy, Oedipus Rex provided a rich and inspiring starting point for our imaginative departure.
"Whilst the character and events remain true to the original Oedipus tragedy, Oedipus Tyranos imbues the characters with altered perceptions and interpretations of events, leading to startlingly different results."
*The production will take place in the Studio, Mattock Lane, Ealing, tomorrow (Friday) and September 27. Doors open 7pm. Book on: 0114 2513232 or online: www.theatreofophidia.co.uk
