"I wasn't a massive fan of drag," says England's king, queen and court of cross-dressing, Jonny Woo.

"It seemed tacky, misogynistic and aggressive." Luckily for us, Jonny cleaned up the scene and turned guys in gal's
clothing into a cult.

Nights such as Tranny Lip Synching at Bethnal Green's Bistrotheque won audiences of all orientations (I had a first kiss with an
ex-girlfriend there) and the title of 'performance art'.

This week two of his very different projects return to west London, with Gay Bingo and International Woman of Mr "E" at the ICA and Soho Theatre respectively.

"Gay Bingo's basically as much craziness as I can cram into one night and five rounds of bingo – watch out ICA," Jonny says, "And Mr E is, in a nutshell, my back from the dead story."

Twenty years of partying hospitalised Jonny with massive organ failure nearly two years ago, and Mr "E" recreates his rise, fall and resurgence through spectacular, surreal and stupidly funny skits.

Gay Bingo, hosted by Jonny Woo is at the ICA, The Mall, Saturday, July 12. Free with gallery admission (£3/2 concs). Doors 6pm, bingo 7.30pm until late. Call 020 7930 3647. See www.ica.org.uk
