THE Beck Theatre Summer Project has announced its choice for the lead role in next month's eagerly anticipated production of Summer Holiday.
Sir Cliff Richard made the role of fun-loving bus mechanic Don famous and now 19-year-old Jamie Smyth, from Iver, is stepping into the limelight after fighting off fierce competition to win the role.
Jamie has taken part in all of The Beck's Summer Projects since the age of nine and this will be his farewell performance.
The musical has a hit-filled score, featuring In the Country, Summer Holiday, I Could Easily Fall in Love with You, Bachelor Boy, Move It, Living Doll, The Young Ones and On the Beach.
Rehearsals begin on August 10 and for the next two weeks The Beck comes alive with the sounds of local young talented people busily reciting lines, learning dance routines and belting out songs. More than 100 people from age nine to 19 will be working with a professional production team, ending with five public performances between Thursday, August 21 and Saturday, August 23.
