A purpose-built theatre could be constructed in Wembley to house a stage adaptation of the hit film franchise 'The Hunger Games' from 2016.

Theatre production company Imagine Nation wants to bring the live action show, based on the successful trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, to Brent and in order to do so wants to put up the building for 10 years on the Yellow Car Park on the corner of Fulton Road and Olympic Way.

The firm behind the planning application to Brent Council is Wembley Theatre Ltd, which was only incorporated in early November.

The building would comprise the 1,300-seat theatre, a restaurant, a foyer, a bar, back of house facilities, and associated landscaping, bicycle parking and ancillary works.

It will create 130 jobs and the evening production will last between 7pm and 10.30pm six days week with matinees between noon and 5pm on Saturdays and one weekday.

The stage version of 'The Hunger Games' will be co-produced by Robin de Levita, co-founder of Imagine Nation, which previously created an auditorium out of an empty hangar on a former military airfield in its native Netherlands for 'Anne', a play of The Diary of Anne Frank, and the musical 'Soldaat van Oranje: De Musical'.

Audiences experienced the shows in ‘SceneAround’, where the bank of seats were mounted on a rotating platform that turned to face different sets and was accompanied by a 180-degree projections.

The planning statement by Wembley Theatre Ltd said: "The proposed theatre is an exciting new complementary ‘meantime’ development for Wembley.

"The theatre uses innovative staging technologies which create a unique and unforgettable audience experience and will be the first theatre of its kind in the UK."
