London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon 's Emily Chudy caught up with London-based pop singer-songwriter Jazz Mino.

Originally from Manchester, Jazz first got into music playing the ukulele and busking, before releasing her debut single, Blue Eyes; she has featured at multiple music festivals around the UK, supporting Lianne La Havas, the Noisettes, and Lucy Rose.

Jazz said: "I would describe my music as pop music with a slightly quirky edge. Although I write most of my songs on the piano, when I'm performing live I play the ukulele, backed by my awesome support band of cello by Miranda Lewis, and violin by Natalia Wierzbicka!

"In terms of style, fans always say that I am very vibrant and energetic on stage! I think that this also translates to into the studio, I love making music that has a driving beat but also poignant lyrics with an underlying message."

Songs that tell stories

On her influences, Jazz said: "I absolutely love all of the old stuff, from Etta James and Frankie Valli, to Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. I enjoy telling stories in my songs, which I think has been influenced by Johnny Cash and Dolly.

"I've also recently been really into Sia and and Lianne La Havas; they are both fantastic song-writers and I've especially taken inspiration from the way that Sia's music has changed throughout the years."

The musician is officially releasing her second single, Superwoman, in February, which will see her stray into the dance/pop genre. The music video has already been released, and is receiving a lot of attention from fans due to its unconventional style.

Jazz said: "I think just about everybody is talking about the Superwoman music video! I'd love to take the credit for the fantastic idea, but Zig Zag Zig Productions who filmed the video came up with the concept.

"I don't think it's what my fans were quite expecting, but I love surprising people... It keeps them on the edge of their seat!

"For those that haven't seen the video, definitely go and watch it, but as I keep warning... Do not watch whilst eating!

"In terms of the song itself, it's taken a more dance-pop edge than my debut single Blue Eyes. Superwoman is about people in your life taking all that they can emotionally from you, and turning their backs when you need help yourself.

"When I was in the studio with Superwoman, I really enjoyed experimenting with a more electronic sound. I'm so pleased with the final outcome. Every time I hear it, it makes me grin ear to ear!"

Glastonbury dream

In 2016 Jazz plans to release a further three singles, play at UK music festivals and embark on a tour of the UK.

Jazz said: "Ever since I began writing and performing, my dream has always been to perform at Glastonbury Festival - I've entered the emerging talent 2016 competition with Superwoman, so we'll see what happens!

"In terms of a bigger plan, I'm just really enjoying writing lots, performing and developing my style. My motto has always been aim high, achieve high... It's worked very well for me so far!"

Jazz Mino's new single Superwoman comes out on Friday February 26 ; pre-order your copy on iTunes or Amazon .

A music reviewer for We Close Tonight said: "Jazz Mino brings that must-sought level of being effortlessly cool to her music, with a little added kookiness thrown in for good measure."
