London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with indie-pop band Golden Spike.

Golden Spike are a London-based band, with members coming from all over the globe; including two Australians, an Irishman and an American. They have been friends for a long time, getting together as a group in January of this year.

Golden Spike said: "At heart we're a straight-up indie-pop band with a love of short punchy songs and good harmonies. Owing to the backgrounds and influences of individual band members, there's a pretty definite folk/Americana strain to some of our songs, but that's more by accident than design.

"Ultimately our goal is to write songs that we all like, regardless of anything. Luckily we have a shared sense of purpose and a shared sense of humour, and that accounts for much of the way we go about things."

The members of Golden Spike have previously been in many bands, that have shared the stage with Wilco, The Handsome Family, Superchunk and more.

They said: "We definitely try not to be too prescriptive in our approach to the songs, so the initial idea can come from a scribbled down lyric, a funny notion or a nice chord progression, and then together we thrash them out until they become something that's fun to play and good to listen to.

"I’d say we all have a love of bands like R.E.M, Jayhawks, Beck, Big Star, Super Furry Animals. Except for Mia, who doesn't consider any of that as music at all."

The band have just record their debut EP at London's Soup Studios.

On the future of the band, Golden Spike said: "Having our music heard by people who might enjoy it is the main priority at the moment.

"We're releasing our debut EP, Whom Shall We Shoot, on vinyl and digitally in the coming months and it will be available everywhere things like that are available."
