London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with acoustic rock singer/songwriter Conor Coughlan.

Coughlan's music is acoustic, with elements of rock, pop, soul, Americana and folk. He has been playing music for five years, since he was just 14-years-old.

Coughlan is currently promoting his first album, Give It Up, which will be released TODAY, Friday October 9!

Coughlan said: "I grew up around music, my dad's a musician, so he played a lot of Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, that old-school music is one of my biggest influences. I also love new music, like Jake Bugg.

"I [started playing music] when I was around 14, I was living in Canada, I moved over there with my parents when I was around 12, and started gigging around 14 in the local open mic scene in the area.

"I spend a lot of time in America, touring and travelling. I came to London in June to start promoting the album."

Coughlan was born in Essex before emigrating to Canada in 2008. In early 2014, Conor stumbled upon the famous Berkerley studio in California, Fantasy Studios, where the album Give It Up was recorded.

Coughlan said: "I think every part of music is critical, but my favourite part is performing. It's the thing I get the most buzz from. Writing songs is great as well though, especially when you know you've got a good one, it's exciting."

Oscar-nominated American filmmaker Jason Cohen is currently filming a documentary on Conor and his road to success.

Coughlan said: "In the future, I would love to release more albums, build on what I already have, build my fanbase in the UK... I have a decent little fanbase in America.

"Hopefully soon I'll go on a little tour."
