A PAIR of music-loving mates from West Drayton are making a bold bid to take over the borough's airwaves.

Wayne Hyland, 33, and Hughie Dixon, 40, who have known each other for 15 years, are hosting a weekly radio show, Ciao Buddha Indie Rock Show, on Hayes FM to promote local talent.

Hughie explains the driving forces behind the show.

"We are on a crusade to give bands air time and we want to become the focal point for the music scene across Hillingdon. We act as a noticeboard for gigs and events, and want bands to send in demo discs or come in and play live sessions.

"We have a two-hour show and we will be playing anything from Nirvana to Babyshambles and, of course, local talent."

The show's first two sessions generated global interest.

Hughie says: "I promoted them on my MySpace page and have had emails from people in other countries. It's been a very encouraging response and we want people to get in touch with us and tell us what they want to hear from the type of music we are focusing on."

"I have had a bit of hospital radio experience but this opportunity is very exciting," says Wayne. "We are hoping it could lead to bigger things but it is just great to have this opportunity to play our music, have a laugh and hopefully keep the listeners happy.

"Before the first show we were very nervous but when you get on with it, everything just seems to flow very naturally. We spend three to four hours before every show working out what we are going to play and drawing up an outline."

The Ciao Buddha Indie Rock Show is broadcast every Tuesday between 9pm and 11pm on Hayes FM 91.8.
