A young talented singer-songwriter from Chiswick, who previously opened a gig for Paloma Faith, has reached the final of the UK's biggest street music competition.

Luca Fiore, 22, entered the soloist category and was picked as the judges' choice to go through to Mayor of London Boris Johnson's Gigs Grand final on Sunday (September 6).

The Italian guitarist, who released his first single I Drink Water in January 2015, has a mix of music genres from rock and metal to pop and classical.

His lyrics are inspired by life experiences; and his on stage performances include prestigious venues such as The Palm Beach Casino and Café Royal; touring England, Ireland and Spain, opening for artists like Paloma Faith at international festivals.

Luca said: "Semi-finals were super fun! I've been quite busy with gigs and other sessions - I've been playing professionally for over two years now - but I still managed to do some fun gigs at great places like St Paul's and Trafalgar Square.

"I'm doing my daily singing practice and some heavy metal practice!

"I was very happy when Kate Jones (one of brilliant people behind the project) called me to tell me the good news.

"I didn't expect to get to the final at all, I just told myself I would have fun and see what would happen.

"And something did! That's how I'm approaching this Sunday too."

After a five-month search and 240 entries, 18 acts will take to the stage for the chance to be crowned busker of the year, at Westfield Stratford City.

Among the prizes up for grabs include a licence to busk on the London Underground, a busking trip to Paris and recording time at a top professional studio.

There will be six overall finalists - five chosen by the judges and one by public vote - at the grand final; with the panel selecting the winner in each category and one overall champion.

XFM DJ Phil Clifton will host the event, and this year there's three music-mad judges on the panel.

The event takes place from midday to 6pm is free to attend.
