After A busy few weeks, I can finally get around to writing about a band whose album launch I was regrettably unable to attend back in August.

Toffees hail from Ruislip and are expert craftspeople when it comes to songwriting. A Room With A View is their EP and it is available via their website, www.toffeesofficial.co.uk.

The three members of Toffees are under 20, all three are very proficient at what they do, and have the creativity, dedication and focus that a young band needs to break through to the big time.

Female vocalist and guitarist MJ Lewis’s voice makes an interesting juxtaposition with main vocalist Peirs Nolan (also guitar) and gives their sound a distinctive edge reminiscent of The Pixies.

Ryan Bailey on drums perfectly compliments and completes this bassless trio. Occasional keyboard strings sweeten this already palatable soundscape.

Favourite bands and influences are The Who, The Beatles and The Cure. Although many tunes are uplifting and danceable, it is not amps turned up to 11 all the time. One track entitled Rat On A Wheel shows the band’s ability to be subtle and sublime. Hopefully we’ll get to experience a Toffees performance in the borough soon.

Local ladies The Tuts started their intensive European tour last week again supporting Kate Nash. She obviously knows where her bread’s buttered having this very talented trio as her warm-up act. Holland, Belgium and Germany are already under their belts. Harriet, Nadia and Beverly can finally put their GCSE German to use. Ja ja ja. If what I’ve heard is true then watch out Italy, France and Switzerland.

The Tuts are back in UK for gigs at The Waterfront Norwich on Thursday next week, The Institute Birmingham next Friday, SBE London next Saturday and The Globe in Cardiff on Monday the 14th. Check www.thetuts.bandcamp.com for details.

Friday at The Crown and Treaty, Uxbridge will give you some lively and loud entertainment from Girl In The Garden and Since May.

GITG are from Staines and Since May – who have been together since.... May – are from west London. Both groups played at the Band Night at The Compass Theatre two weeks back.

This will be a Yuk Indie promotion, which means it is free entry until 10pm, and then just £5. DJ Steve will be expertly manning the decks before, during, and after the live stuff.
