A RISING music star from Shepherd’s Bush who played her first gig in a Goldhawk Road pub is following in the footsteps of stars.

Emma Ballantine, 25, showcased her talent to W12 for the first time in 2009 at The Goldhawk’s open mic night.

Since then she has completed her debut album, Flying Machine, and on Tuesday played at the legendary Troubador club in West Brompton.

The Oxford graduate says one of the tracks, This Morning, was inspired by her daily walk to Shepherd’s Bush Tube station. “A bustling, sunny morning in Shepherd's Bush is great inspiration.”

Emma, who says she is influenced by Suzanne Vega and Tori Amos, said playing the Troubador was her best moment so far, as she followed in the footsteps of legends like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. She added: “It's a bit of a pilgrimage. When bands come to London they want to play there.”

Emma Ballantine’s album is available on CD and to download on iTunes, BandCamp and at www.emmaballantine.com
