British trio The xx have announced two more shows at Brixton's O2 Academy bringing the total to seven.

The residency was extended due to huge demand for the first five shows that went on sale today, November 25 and sold out in hours.

They will now also play the iconic venue on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 14-15, alongside original dates 8-11 and 13 March.

If the latest dates sell out this means the band, who formed after meeting at the Elliott School in Putney, will set the record for the longest run of sold out shows at O2 Academy Brixton.

It will mark the group's first headline tour dates in three years, that time has seen the recording of upcoming album I See You and Jamie xx releasing a Mercury prize nominated solo album.

Their latest album is due for release on January 13 in 2017 and features newly released track On Hold.

Tickets for the newly announced dates are now on sale from Ticketmaster here , tickets are priced at £35, plus a booking fee.
