London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Getwestlondon is today launching Unsigned Friday to bring you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon's Emily Chudy caught up with singer/songwriter Sophie DeBattista.

Sophie DeBattista is a British singer/songwriter originally from Malta, currently living in London. At only 20-years-old, she has taken the UK by storm, playing at venues such as Roof Gardens Kensington.

Her style is mostly pop music; her catchy single So Damn Perfect flew to number 3 on the iTunes pop charts on release day, while her single Beer Goggles has amassed nearly 1,500 views on youtube.

She has already performed at high-profile events such as The Eurovision Song Contest (as an entrant for Malta) as well as many venues around London.

Her breakthrough gig, at just 17-years-old, was the Sheffield Christmas Lights Switch On, supporting Mel C from the Spice Girls.

Sophie is currently in her second year at The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, studying songwriting. Her first EP will be released in April 2016.

Sophie said: “Music is my life.

"I love writing, playing and performing my original music.

"My style is based on pop, however I like to include influences from other genres too, keeping it interesting for the listener.

"My songs are generally quirky, energetic and relatable.”

She will be playing several venues around London over the coming months so make sure to see her while you can.

Upcoming shows in west London:

  • Wednesday April 22 from 7pm – Hard Rock Café, 150 Old Park Lane, Piccadilly, W1K 1QZ
