London has arguably the best music scene around, with thousands of talented musicians emerging every day, most of which are unsigned acts waiting for their big break.

Unsigned Friday brings you the very best unsigned music artists from around the capital, as well as giving these acts a platform to promote their music.

This week, getwestlondon 's Emily Chudy caught up with four-piece alternative rock band Chase The Day.

The band consist of James (vocals, guitar), Mano (guitar), Aaron (bass) and Andre (drums), and they play 90s-inspired alternative rock.

James said: "Chase the Day songs are alternative rock crossing lots of different styles from pop through to metal, sometimes in the same song, but it all meets to make sense somehow. We're definitely into a lot of bands from the 90s but we don't set out to emulate anyone, just to write songs that are honest.

"Everyone listens to different music: I'm a little obsessed by a band called Nothing right now, and the Monolith of Phobos collaboration between Julian Lennon and Les Claypool is just perfect.

"Aaron and I have spent hours drifting away to shoegaze: My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, but recently it's been a touch of Astroid Boys for some grime. He's really into 80s synth pop too.

"Mano likes more technical showmanship: Jazz fusion, Steve Vai... Andre and I both love Cage the Elephant. The list is endless and it will be totally different if I answer this again next week!"

The band have been playing together for around a year and a half, though frontman James has been writing songs for many years.

James said: "I started writing some of these songs years back but they really came together when our producer Tommy Gleeson (Slaves to Gravity, Ga Gas) helped whip them into shape.

"We've been playing together for a year and a half so these songs are really lived in now, like a fine wine or an old shoe."

Debut album

Chase The Day will be releasing their debut album, Tabula Rasa, in the UK on Friday September 9. The album can be pre-ordered online now , and iTunes and Spotify will follow some time after the release.

James said: "Our album is twelve tracks of groovy riffs and catchy hooks that will take you right back to the alt rock/grunge heyday of the 90s.

"Every track is different; from the swinging RATM style riffs and lush harmonies of lead single Pariah, through to the Nirvana-inspired introspective acoustic number Just the Same, the pop Weezerisms of Across the Water, to the thumping closer Dig."

James said: "We're really excited at the reception our video for Pariah has had; getting picked up by Classic Rock Magazine was a very pleasant surprise.

"From here we've got more great videos coming for two new singles. The next one will be for a upbeat protest/anti-love song called Forget Your Name. Then we've a really interesting track to drop that I'm not allowed to talk about much yet but we're working on some very cool ideas for the video."

On the new album, PureGrainAudio said: "Tabula Rasa contains 12 tracks each crammed full of high-energy '90s-era alt-rock that fans of Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, and Nirvana will eat up!"
