Tears, goose bumps and spine-tingling electricity filled the Hammersmith Apollo on Tuesday evening, when Kate Bush  took to the stage to launch her long-awaited set of live gigs - her first in 35 years.

It had been a long time coming - and it certainly didn't disappoint.

The concert was described by BBC 6Music DJ Lauren Laverne as a ''wonderful mix" as well as "intimate, adventurous, avant-garde but entirely unpretentious, so clever but so warm and inclusive.

Singers including Lily Allen and Mark Almond joined the capacity crowd, as well as actress Gemma Arterton. It was the opening night of the new 22-date Before the Dawn tour - and many took to Twitter afterwards to express their admiration.

Kate Bush made a personal appeal to fans not to record the concert on their iPhones, but to enjoy the experience. Here's what our reporter James Sherrard thought of it.
