Floats are being prepared, dancers are rehearsing and everybody is hoping for a sunny bank holiday weekend - that's right, it can only be Notting Hill Carnival.

Europe's biggest street festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year as it runs from August 24 to 25.

We are taking a look back at last year's festivities to give those who have not been, a flavour of what is to come. And for those who may have had a Red Stripe too many last year, here is a reminder of how great it was.

London's Afro-Caribbean communities have been celebrating their culture and traditions with the two-day festival since 1966 and this year you can expect it to be even bigger and better.
