Mamas Gun are a five-piece band, fronted by the charismatic Andy Platts, who blends Motown, soul, funk and rock influences to stunning effect.

They will be performing at Under The Bridge, under Stamford Bridge in Chelsea on Friday night (October 17). Tickets cost £12.

Following a Radio 2 A-listing for first single ‘Red Cassette’ and the release of their critically acclaimed third album ‘Cheap Hotel’, Mamas Gun are set to release their new single ‘Hello, Goodnight’ on October 20th.

‘Hello Goodnight’ is a glorious burst of juicy pop about a friend of lead singer Andy Platt’s who has been dating on and off for years but had absolutely zero success. The song was inspired by the frustration of such situations. As Andy puts it: “She goes on dates and literally the men are like, ‘Hello - goodnight!’ She’s really pretty, really bright, but she keeps picking the wrong guys!”

The single is a nod to ELO with its uplifting, surging harmonies and phased effects.

“For me ELO combined fantastic Beatlesesque song writing with a bit of the flavour of American soul / R & B and the bombast of Queen,” says Andy, “three musical ingredients I personally really identify with.”

‘Cheap Hotel’ is the third LP by Mamas Gun, the London band named after an Erykah Badu album whose first two long-players - 2009’s Routes to Riches and 2011’s The Life and Soul - made them big in Japan and Southeast Asia and earned rave reviews in the UK and across Europe. ‘Cheap Hotel’ is a modern classic of retro funkadelia, soft rock and sassy-sweet pop’n’soul, taking cues from The Beatles in terms of production and arrangements, and sharing with Stevie Wonder a melodic sensibility and sense of pure, unalloyed joy.
