Television presenter Ruth Langsford will be hosting a "dementia friendly" Carols by Candlelight concert at St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society .

The event on Tuesday December 15 is one of six being held across the country, will include festive readings from Sir Michael Parkinson, Sir Tony Robinson, Lesley Manville OBE and comedian Hugh Dennis.

There will also be musical performances from chamber choir Vasari Singers and a performance from an Alzheimer's Society Singing for the Brain group, as well as mince pies and mulled wine.

The event will be dementia-friendly, meaning that they will be fully supportive of all people with dementia in attendance through dementia-friendly signage, stewards on hand to guide people to seats, and volunteers being briefed to ensure that they know some of the key things to look out for when working with someone with dementia.

Langsford, star of ITV's This Morning, said: "I am absolutely delighted to be hosting one of Alzheimer's Society's Carols by Candlelight concerts, which are the perfect way to get together with your friends and families and really get into the festive spirit.

"All funds raised at the series of six concerts will be used to support people affected by dementia.

"As someone whose father died from Alzheimer's disease and has experienced the invaluable support that local Alzheimer's Society support groups can give, I know just how vital this is."

Last year's concert at the west London venue included appearances from actress Carey Mulligan and comedian Ruth Jones, who spoke about their personal experiences of dementia. There were also readings from actor Kevin Whately and children's TV presenter Richard McCourt.

Tickets cost £35 for adults (or for a combined ticket for a person with dementia and their carer), £20 for a young person (aged 10 to 17) and free for ages nine and below.
