Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville make up duo IDER, an exciting edition to the pop landscape.

Typically a pop pairing will be cited as cheesy and it's a formula that doesn't tend to work - think Jedward, PJ & Duncan and Booty Luv - but in this case IDER represent an interesting pop with the tracks to back it up.

They're following suit of female duos Tegan & Sara and Icona Pop and the likes of Pet Shop Boys who are much more credible and also have a knack for creating a pop banger.

However let's not compare them to the former just because of their gender, because IDER are very different musically, offering haunting electronic pop beats over brooding lyrics and tight harmonies.

On how IDER came to be they say: "We met in uni and we became mates then just started writing music together."

Megan adds: "When we left uni I convinced Lily to move to London so we could carry on writing and work with producers in London.

"It was very much friends first then IDER happened."

It seems like the friendship they built first has helped with their openness when it comes to writing IDER material together.

They say: "It's a bit of everything, it's very collaborative because we live together and have done since uni now, so we're constantly throwing ideas around.

"Sometimes a song may be one or the other to keep it fresh but it is very predominantly collaborative thing."

Their debut full EP 'Gut Me Like An Animal was released back in March, the four track effort explores themes of love and selfishness.

The EP continues their signature sound from earlier tracks like 'Sorry' and 'Pulse' but ramps up the gears with huge synth productions.

The duo say inspiration for their writing comes from all around, not just their own personal experiences.

They add: "We chat all the time about ideas, it's just life though, you put out what you take in from personal experiences and things we have heard.

"It's about soaking in the world."

On releasing the EP they say: "It's really wonderful, we're really chuffed to have it out for people to listen to.

"It's all been positive, but we haven’t read too much!"

The EP also featured a production credit from fellow alt-pop star Shura on haunting ballad 'Does She Even Know', which wouldn't be out of place on her own debut.

The collaboration came about after Shura heard them perform the original version of the track at a show.

IDER say: "She really liked the song and was into it when we asked, which was pretty wicked!

"We tried it out and it worked quite naturally, rather than a forced thing. She's so great to work with."

Their first headline show at Bermondsey Social Club was a special one for the duo and the beginnings of IDER as they head for bigger stages.

On the first show they say: "We were very nervous! But it was so much fun and the audience were great.

"It was in a great little space under the railway track and there's a real nice vibe there."

The summer sees them perform festival sets at the likes of Bluedot, The Great Escape and End of the Road, an impressive warm-up for their two headline shows in London this October.

As they say: "We're really looking forward to all the shows over the summer to really gear up for October.

"It will come around quite quick but it'll be bigger and better by then."

On what's next for the duo and what they'd like to achieve they don't reveal too much saying: "We have quite a lot of dreams.

"We have to take things as they come and we will just have to see but yes - we have big dreams!"

As to whether listeners can expect some new tracks ahead of the October shows they say: "We're constantly writing and recording the wheels are always in motion..."

Tickets for their Archspace shows on October 25-26 are priced at £7.50 and you can buy them from Ticketweb here.
