Every day's a school day when Dave Nachmanoff 's in town.

Not only does each song in his repertoire yield a yarn or two but he'll also throw in his two cents worth of philosophy, and this North Virginian's two cents hold a lot of weight due to the PhD under his belt in the subject in which he used to teach and lecture.

So if you want to educate yourself via the valuable medium of songmanship then pop along this Thursday (April 14) to the Uxbridge Folk Club at 388a Long Lane, Hillingdon , where Dave will unleash his talent upon thee.

Not only a great teller of tales in song form but also a fine guitarist with connections to Al Stewart, Los Lobos and John Fogerty. Dave's commanding voice and inspirational wealth of folk playing styles are a wonder to behold.

Entry is £10 on the door and £3 for students. Doors open at 7pm.

At the Crown and Treaty pub on Oxford Road, Uxbridge this Friday (April 15) you can rock out to three original acts whose locational origins are as diverse as their music. New to the venue are The Hubbards from the fair city of Hull. With powerful harmonic choruses and buzzing guitars this foursome have an air akin to a northern version of Suede.

The Ages from Borehamwood have an array of well written, arranged, performed and received gems up their collective sleeve. Some gentle and balladeery, some loud and proud but many have a message of truth or a reflection of social injustice and media distrust.

Furs And Masks from London have an upbeat indie guitar dance feel to their sound. Fuzzy riffs amid bright lucidity and instantly infectious their set is littered with what appears to be as yet unrecognised anthems.

Be sure to tune into my interactive HayesFM radio show EVERY Tuesday at 9pm to hear live and original performers. PLUS more local live music news. You can find HayesFM on 91.8FM in London or GLOBAL online .
