As we walked out of North Greenwich tube station on Saturday July 29, we joined groups of glittered up and short wearing festival-goers... also covered in waterproof ponchos.

Yes, it was RAINING on the day of the annual Corona Sunsets festival in Greenwich Peninsula but that didn't stop the crowds descend on a man-made beach overlooking the office buildings in Canary Wharf.

To mine and fellow reporter, Jo's relief, we were handed a free poncho on arrival and while many others trooped through the constant showers, I am sad to say that it would have been a much better experience if the sun was shining.

The seaside replica of fake sand, beach huts and brightly coloured hammocks did look pretty bizarre against the backdrop of grey skies and angry clouds.

Inevitably, the downpours scared some people away, but the girl who walked us in reassured that the event was "amazing last year" - we were yet to be convinced.

I think everyone wished for some sunshine

However, one thing I was convinced about was the admittedly cheesy 'make a wish' tent where you could write down your ultimate wish and hang it up with everyone else's 'wish flags'.

After we made our 'wish' we joined the queues at the face paint and glitter tent, where left with shiny gold transfers on our faces (it looked better than it sounds, I promise.)

Jo was impressed with her fried chicken burger

While Jo opted for a cute golden sun on her cheek, I thought I'd go boho and ask for an Asian kind of styled band across my forehead - little did I know that hours later I would be trying in vain to scrape it off before heading onto the tube into central London.

After gaining some optimism and now dressed like true festival-goers, we headed to grab a bite to eat and check out the corona infused cocktails.

My jackfruit burger was deliciouussss

Admittedly there weren't as many food stalls as expected but I did order a delicious jackfruit and cashew burger with homemade slaw from a cute vegan van, while Jo went for a fried chicken burger which, coming from a vegetarian, also looked pretty tasty.

Unfortunately the music didn't quite get the crowd going until quite a few cocktails later.

Our tasty corona infused cocktails went down a treat

It is safe to say that the festival whose design in inspired by the "world wide tradition of sun worship" is weather dependent.

While I'm sure it would have been a fun celebration in the sun, the rain did dampen our spirits - but hey, there's always next year...
