Classical musicians will take the stage as they perform in a gala concert to celebrate 50 years of Hillingdon.

The Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined by choirs and musicians from around the borough for the gala event on Saturday July 18.

The concert will also include a selection of famous musical pieces from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Mozart's Magic Flute.

The Brunel Barbershop Group will additionally perform a selection of acappella songs.

Prior to the performance, a scripted entertainment will take place featuring local people, celebrating the borough as a place to live and work.

A spokesman for the concert said: "[The concert] will include a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony by the Orchestra with massed choirs from the borough and beyond joining them for what promises to be a spectacular choral finale.

"Presented in partnership with Brunel University London, the concert will also include performances by local rising opera star and Brunel alumnus Ross Ramgobin."

Hillingdon Borough was formed in 1965, with the coat of arms granted on March 22 of the same year.

Tickets for the concert are £10 in advance for adults and £5 for children, and £12 on the night for adults and £6 for children.
