Dagny is the latest Scandinavian artist tipped for success but it's no surprise with her knack for producing pop bangers.

She is already creating a buzz in the pop world after the release of her five-track debut EP 'Ultraviolet' in late 2016 and now she is readying to head out on the road for a summer of live shows.

It's been a long time coming for the singer who featured on dance tracks in the early 2010s and found herself supporting legends like Elton John, Bryan Adams and Sting on tour - handpicked no less.

Now in 2017 it's her time to take centre stage, but she hasn't always been confident about releasing her music into the world.

She says: "For me it's such a new experience to release music, I toured for years before I started releasing - I was too scared.

"I got to see people's reaction [to songs] that way."

However the reaction proves she had nothing to worry about, after 'Backbeat' was played on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show she racked up more than a million plays on Spotify and signed to a major record label in the US and UK.

On the response Dagny tells us: "It's been great! I get tweets and super nice comments from people telling me my music has meant so much to them - and that means the world to me."

The 26-year-old Tromsø born singer joins a long list of Nordic pop royalty including ABBA, Robyn, Bjork and Lykke Li who have managed to crossover and gain international success and arguably provide music listeners with some of the best pop songs of all time.

Dagny fits perfectly with the most recent Scandi-pop invasion of Zara Larsson, Tove Lo and Mø who have all enjoyed individual success with their own unique sounds.

The singer's sound was influenced by 90s pop including Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys

On her decision to be a musician she says: "Probably the same way most people get into it; by just listening and loving it.

"I'm from a music family, so there was always music on the stereo all hours of the day. I didn't really want to become a musician until I started songwriting as some kind of therapy during those dramatic teenage years."

As well as the Nordic pop influences mentioned earlier Dagny is also a 90s-era child which is prominent in her own sound.

Her melancholic pop melodies and catchy lyrics are a crossover of the cheesy colourful pop and broody grunge of the 90s that many of us still hark back to today.

Dagny happily flies the flag for 90s music, she tells us: "I grew up in the 90s and was super into all girl and boy bands such as Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys.

"Super melodic, hooky, big pop tunes. I feel the 90s get so much s**t for being a bad music decade, but there were some real good stuff!

"Just go listen to 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' by Verve, 'Don’t Speak' by No Doubt and The Cardigans - who are still a favorite - for some reminders. They're just bangers."

Dagny's first EP 'Ultraviolet' was released in autumn 2016

Up next for Dagny is a summer schedule jam-packed with gigs across Europe, including a headline set at London's Oslo Hackney on May 15.

On whether she's looking forward to her upcoming London gig she says: "Yaaaas! Playing in London is a dream.

"My band and I are gonna make sure people have a really fun time with us! We're gonna play all the songs that have been released so far and all the next releases for 2017."

And she promises a fast-paced night to match the energy of her infectious music saying: "We generally play high energy, sweaty shows, so wear something light!"

After wearing out the repeat button playing the five-track 'Ultraviolet' EP, her fans are anxiously awaiting new music.

But they won't be left in the dark too long as her latest track 'Wearing Nothing' is expected to be released on May 26.

Dagny agrees as she tells us: "The last release was last September so it's long overdue."

The second half of the year looks set to be her busiest yet, she says: "2017 is going to be good! The plan is to keep releasing for the rest of the year.

"And we're playing lots of festivals around Europe this summer which is always fun."

If you want to lose inhibitions at a night of live pop perfection then catch Dagny at a show this summer: "I'll be the girl in the pink jumpsuit!"

Dagny is performing at Oslo Hackney on Monday May 15 and tickets are priced at £11, they're available from Ticketweb here .
