From juicy grilled prawns to asparagus dipped in cheese sauce, this revamped gastro pub in Richmond is a food lovers paradise.

Owned by Guildford-born Paul Merrett and restaurateur Greg Bellamy, The Victoria, located in West Temple Sheen, reopened on Thursday (September 21) after undergoing an extensive refurbishment.

Get Surrey attended the relaunch party to eat delicious canapés and see the brand new interiors.

Together with a friend, Mr Merrett, who described himself as a "Surrey boy", bought the pub more than 10 years ago.

Even though Mr Merrett owns three other businesses, he sees The Victoria as the "one closest to his heart".

He said: "I think the refurbishment invigorates the whole business, it invigorates the staff, it invigorates the customers.

"It just makes you feel more creative."

During the party, which kicked off at 6pm and lasted until late evening, the food was the main highlight.

Bread with Spanish chorizo, crispy samosas and melon with prosciutto were just a few of the canapés guests were able to indulge.

When asked what customers can expect of the new pub, Mr Marrett said: "They [customers] can expect one of the most talented chefs I have met who is running the kitchen.

"We write the menus together so I think the food is going to go up a notch - without a doubt."

In addition, visitors will find an "amazing" gin and wine list, as well as craft beers and ciders.

Mr Marrett continued: "You can expect seasonality, you can expect well sourced ingredients, sensible pricing, good service, all of that.

"That's what we want to give."

The pub has also created a new menu, which is now available online.

It includes chargrilled Scottish salmon, risotto, yellowfiin tuna tartar and pork fillet.

For dessert, foodies can try roasted pineapple, triple chocolate fudge brownies, affogato, among others.

The cozy new interiors

As someone from Surrey himself, Mr Marrett has encouraged people from across the county to visit the pub.

He concluded: "To make the journey here from pretty much everywhere in Surrey is an hour and it's definitely worth it."
