See inside The Park Café in Osterley after it won 'London's best café' award

The Park Café has been recognised alongside just 13 other coffee shops across Britain

An oasis in the heart of Osterley, a warm and cosy atmosphere engulfs you as you step inside The Park Café in Isleworth.

A café which can take pride in being named as one just 14 regional winners in SIG Roofing's Britain's Best Café competition.

The award, which sits proudly behind the counter of the shop, is something owners Barry Gidoomal and his wife Sheila Gidoomal never expected to achieve.

Mr Gidoomal entered the competition on a whim after receiving a letter in the post from SIG Roofing.

"I don't know, something made me pick it up" said Mr Gidoomal.

He adds: "I said to Sheila, I said do you think we should enter this, just for fun, so we did it for fun and my business was given one of the winners."

Applications were opened up to a public vote, following which, one café from every corner of Britain was chosen.

Mr Gidoomal said: "Our local people, they were so chuffed, they said Barry you have your signature."

"I couldn't believe it," said Mr Gidoomal when asked about winning the award.

"We were dumbstruck, awestruck, my wife and I, she said I can't believe it, I said neither can I."

The Park Café first opened its doors in Osterley, back in May 2007 and 10 years on, it remains a key part of the local community.

"We are very much the hub of the village and the community" says Sheila Gidoomal.

"They say to us now, because we have been here so many years, they say 'how did we manage?

"'What did we do without you? Please don't go away.'"

The Café serves everything from coffee to breakfast to alcohol

The coffee shop hosts meetings for the community, where locals can enjoy a get together.

The café's oldest regular customer, 94-year-old Mavis Longhorn, says she enjoys being able to meet with friends.

She told getwestlondon: "I live just around the corner you see and when I wasn't walking very well, I used to come every morning and call in.

"It's a gentle atmosphere and we can all speak as friends."

Locals enjoy weekly meetings in the Café

Marian Taylor is also a regular customer, she says: "Sheila and Barry are so lovely, so welcoming."

Aside from the shop, Sheila and Barry Gidoomal run an established catering business which provides to local authorities, hospitals, as well as for christenings, weddings and other private functions.
