Every Christmas sees plenty of households tucking into a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. But not everyone is clued up on how to prepare it.

In fact, lots of people turn to Google when it comes to preparing Christmas dinner.

So we thought we'd make it a bit easier for you and round-up some recipes for a tasty Christmas dinner, including how to cook turkey and recipes for sprouts, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, pigs in blankets, gravy and what to make with leftovers.

Before you cook the turkey...

Make sure you know what's what. Leave leftovers to cool, don't overcrowd the fridge and don't wash the turkey are just a few tips for making sure it's done right. The Food Standards Agency issued a series of tips on storing and cooking a turkey so you can avoid any risk of food poisoning.

How to cook a turkey

Jamie Oliver's recipe has herby pork and apricot stuffing. The difficulty rating is "not too tricky" and serves eight.

Sprouts recipe

We Googled it and found loads of sprouts recipes that were super-duper fancy but we thought it's usually best to keep it simple (especially if you haven't made them before) so here is a basic Brussels sprout recipe that isn't too complicated.

Roast potatoes recipe

The BBC reckon this roastie recipe is fool-proof, so that'll do nicely. Preparation time is 15-20 minutes and then they take 50 minutes to cook.

Parsnips recipe

We turned to Nigella Lawson for this recipe , and it's a good 'un. Instead of honey, Nigella uses maple syrup. She reckons "there is more ambiguity about the maple syrup, it’s a sweetness less cloying."

Carrots recipe

Jamie Oliver has come up with loads of ways to transform the humble carrot . He says: “Boiled, mashed, roasted or fried to perfection – these easy-peasy carrot recipes work wonders.”

How to make gravy
