Capital captured on canvas

A NEW exhibition at The Gallery at Willesden Green focuses on the varied cityscapes of London.

Three artists are showing work in The Exhibition in Print.

John Blandy spent two years drawing the same lime tree in Queen's Park, Brondesbury.

Val Gleave uses photography, computer art and clay modelling but finds the greatest satisfaction comes from her paintings in oil and acrylic.

John Read is a creator of wonderful, timeless prints.

Many of the items are on sale with price tags under £100.

Share your anger

AWARD-WINNING comedian Jo Caulfield hits Harrow as part of her 49-date national tour, Jo Caulfield Won't Shut Up.

The star of BBC Radio 4 harps on about relationships, 'loved-up' couples, her drunken girlfriends and their ugly children.

She also tackles geeky autograph collectors, institutionalised sexism, condescending shop assistants, and gives the audience a piece of her mind about Sir Alan Sugar, her husband and her Irish parents.

At every gig, Jo also conducts an audience survey of what is good and best about the area.

"I always give the audience a chance to get their moans and complaints out in the open," she says.

"I see it as a celebration of anger."

Jo was named among the 100 best stand-up comedians by Channel 4 and stars in various radio comedy panel shows.

Exercise your grey matter

BRAINBOXES should head to a Kenton pub for their last chance to take part in a quiz competition with a potential top prize of £650.

The Ember Inn chain that runs The Duck In The Pond is hosting a month-long inter-venue contest in its west London outlets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Each team's three highest scores will be totalled on a leaderboard and the top-ranked will bag £150 and a place at a regional final - coincidentally at The Duck In The Pond - on March 15, at which the first prize is £650.

Manager Gary Payton said: "Our quiz nights have always been extremely popular but we wanted to up the stakes this time.

"The teams only need to take part in three of the quiz nights during February, although they are welcome to take part in all of them!

"I really hope that the Let's Get Quizzical Brainbox champions 2010 are a team from my pub."

Chaotic Ayckbourn comedy

RIOTOUS comedy abounds in Belmont Theatre Company's production of Bedroom Farce.

Suburban marriage is thrown into the spotlight in an Alan Ayckbourn play featuring four couples, three bedrooms, two celebrations, one blazing row and an illicit kiss (or two).

Infidelity, surprise and misinterpretation combine to cause chaos and confusion, and as the evening proceeds we discover surprising links between all the couples.

The am-dram outfit has been treading the boards since 1947 and Bedroom Farce follows October's performance of the Lloyd Webber/Rice musical The Likes of Us.

Toying with tradition

A PLAY set in Ireland in the 1970s is the next production on the calendar at Kilburn's Tricycle Theatre.

The cast for Pat McCabe's The Dead School includes Sean Campion, Carrie Crowley, Peter Daly, Nick Lee and Gemma Reeves.

The plot concerns schoolmaster Raphael Bell, who is devoted to traditional teaching values, whereas colleague Malachy Dudgeon is passionate about rock music and makes rules only to break them.

The drama flits between past and present, and music and song are interwoven in this powerful story of the love men leave behind in the pursuit of what they think is life.

The Dead School enjoyed a sell-out run at the 2009 Dublin Theatre Festival and was nominated for three Irish Times Theatre awards.
