POPULAR amateur dramatics group The Purple Theatre Company returns to the Compass Theatre for By Jeeves, a musical comedy penned by Alan Ayckbourn, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The show brings to life the much-loved characters of PG Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster chronicles.

Bertie Wooster fights off confused magistrates, random females with romantic intentions and threatening jelly manufacturers, but there is only one man who guides him and his pals through the obstacles littering the maze of love. A evening of fun and laughter for all the family.

Otway at the Tropic

A QUARTER of a century since his first hit, Cor Baby That's Really Free, John Otway reached the top 10 last year with Bunsen Burner, a single inspired by his daughter's science homework.

So, confident of his success, the musician booked the London Palladium ahead of the charts being announced - and, luckily, five days after his sell-out show he was back on Top of the Pops.

Otway, who has also penned a book about being Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure, will perform both hit singles, plus many lesser-known tracks, when he visits Ruislip this Friday.

Challenging the crowd

OUTSPOKEN and opinionated, Ian Cognito is set to spit his viciously humorous vitriol over an unsuspecting audience in Ruislip next week. Ranting without ever losing style or panache, the comic has been hailed as a bracing antidote to more user-friendly routines, and challenges crowds to think for themselves - before agreeing with him.

Too unconventional and uncompromising for TV, the world is his stage, and what a deliciously different one it is too. With support from BBC New Comedy Awards finalist Becky Love and Jeff Innocent, who appeared alongside Vinnie Jones in Mean Machine.

Charity gig in honour of Paul Fox from The Ruts

A CHARITY gig will be honouring the memory of Paul Fox, a well-respected local musician who found fame with The Ruts from the late 1970s to the early 1080s, culminating in many appearances on Top of The Pops, and collaborations with the likes of Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.

Paul, who lived in Hayes and Ruislip for many years, succumbed to terminal cancer on October 21, 2007, while being cared for by dedicated staff at Michael Sobell House Hospice, based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.

Friends and family of Paul have organised this third annual fundraising event to collect much-needed funds for the hospice, which needs to raise £1.2million every year to maintain its services.

The gig will feature four local bands, beginning with ska-punk five-piece The Resistants, followed by Paul's son Lawrence's band, Shanakee, then Babylon's Burning - a tribute to The Ruts - and headlined by The Dubcats, Paul's final creation, born out of his love of dub and reggae.
