A CHARITY art fair showcasing the work of up to 20 talented artists is at Uxbridge Library until next Friday.

The show, hosted by Hillingdon Artists, includes limited edition abstract creations and impressionist African scenes by Barry Moore; water colours and acrylics by Joyce Carpenter; pastels by Susan Cairnes; and jewellery by Jane Greer.

All the work will be for sale and a percentage of the total proceeds will be donated to the Community Cancer Centre (CCC), in Yiewsley, which provides emotional support and information for cancer patients, their families and anyone affected by the disease. CCC volunteers will also be in the library at certain times to answer questions about the work done at the centre.

Cupboard love

A PUPPET show and workshop will bring to life popular nursery rhyme Old Mother Hubbard, about the old lady who went to the cupboard to fetch her dog a bone.

It is the second in a series of children's theatre shows combined with creative workshops, presented by Northwood Community Arts Group.

One of England's leading puppet companies, Garlic Theatre, which has hosted magical interpretations of well-known tales for 15 years, will demonstrate the art of puppet making before the characters are brought to life by skilled puppeteer, Ikloosha Malara.

Suitable for children aged three to six. Only 16 places available, so advance booking is essential.

All that jazz

AWARD-WINNING guitarist Jim Mullen makes a special guest appearance leading a jazz quartet in Ruislip on Monday.

After touring the US with the Average White Band in the 70s, Glasgow-born Mullen met Dick Morrissey and throughout the 80s enjoyed considerable, if not commercial acclaim as joint leader of the pioneering British funk act, Morrissey-Mullen.

He has since played and recorded with the likes of Georgie Fame, Mose Allison, Claire Martine, Percy Sledge and, most recently, as part of The AllStars, a collective of session musicians on the Paul McCartney-produced album, All About The Music.

Watercolour exhibition by former barrister

AN EXHIBITION of watercolour paintings by Michael Aubrey, a professional artist for more than 25 years, will be held in Northwood.

Michael, who began painting as a child, studied at Cambridge University, and has enjoyed stints as a barrister, university lecturer, journalist and school master.

He is a Fellow of the British Watercolour Society and exhibits internationally, recently having been commissioned to paint a series of well-known schools, colleges and public buildings.

He has also held more than 30 international solo exhibitions in London, Paris and further afield, under the patronage of the British Council.

Annual festive night for Ickenham villagers

AN ARRAY of Christmas-themed attractions can be found in Ickenham as the village once again hosts its annual Festive Community Night.

In and around Ickenham Village Hall and Community Close will be a host of voluntary organisations and charities with music, games, festive sales and information.

Many shops will stay open late, providing an opportunity to get ahead with buying Christmas presents, and local restaurants and pubs will be running special events.

Thanks to a grant from Hillingdon Council, the village will also come alive with a dazzling display of lights.

A wonderful event for all the family to get into the festive spirit.
