Go to Soho's Chinese New Year Parade

Chinese New Year this year falls on Monday February 8, the Year of the Monkey. On Sunday February 14, Chinese New Year celebrations take place in Trafalgar Square, Chinatown, Soho and Shaftesbury Avenue, including a big parade.

Just don't forget the magic phrase, Happy New Year! It's "Gong Xi Fa Cai" in Mandarin and "Kung Hei Fat Choi" in Cantonese.

Take a trip to Little Venice

Little Venice is a gorgeous canal area just north of Paddington , with moored boats and riverside cafés.

Take a break from London this year and take a tranquil walk along the canal, or take a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Cheer on Oxford and Cambridge at the annual Boat Race

The annual Oxford and Cambridge boat race is a four-and-a-quarter mile course along the River Thames, from Putney to Mortlake, through Hammersmith and Fulham . Plenty of locals always gather to watch the action, so don't miss out on the fun this year!

In 2016, the race will take place on Easter Sunday, Sunday March 27.

See a free performance in Hounslow's Bell Square

Bell Square is an outdoor arts space in the heart of Hounslow, launched in 2014. It is a place where anyone and everyone can come to see some of the best outdoor performers in the world, for free, from acrobatics to theatre.

Queue up to see the greats at Wimbledon

Every year hundreds of Wimbledon locals queue for a spot on the famous Murray Mound to watch the iconic tennis tournament.

Relax at Ruislip Lido

Ruislip Lido is a 60-acre lake and artificial beach that's perfect for relaxing on sunny days with children. It's only a short distance away from most areas of west London, yet many of us may not have ever visited!

Lumiere Festival is coming to London, with a free outdoor lights celebration. Over four evenings, from Thursday January 14 to Sunday January 17, don't miss out on this spectacular show.

Over the course of the festival, you'll see iconic architecture transformed with 3D projections, interactive installations and other extraordinary light works.

The festival will take place in King's Cross, Mayfair, Piccadilly, Regent Street, St James', Trafalgar Square and Westminster .

Pride is an annual festival that celebrates LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) individuals, and is the biggest one-day event held in London annually... Why not go along and show your pride and support, as well as having a fun day out dressed in your finery?

Last year's parade was a gorgeous sunny day, filled with laughter and colour.

Taste of London food festival is due to hit Regent's Park in June over three days, as London's hottest restaurants and chefs gather together to show off their most delicious dishes from their extensive menus.

As well as sampling food, visitors can watch cooking demonstrations, meet top chefs, take part in interactive classes and try fine drinks.

Last year's Hanwell Hootie music festival saw 45 bands of all different genres play at pubs and bars all over Hanwell , and 2016's festival is set to be even bigger and better than the last.

Performer at the event Emily Lee said: "I didn't know what to expect. I saw all the pubs and thought, 'wow, this is great!'

"It is nice to immerse yourself in it... Hanwell Hootie is really strong in terms of its line-up."

Make the most of Harrow Arts Centre

Beloved Harrow Arts Centre faces closure in 2016 due to cuts to government funding. Although the building can still be saved, and donations are welcomed, you'd better make the most out of the building and see some great shows while you can!

With brilliants acts such as Romesh Ranganathan, Jenny Eclair, a jazz orchestra and more on the bill, get down to Harrow Arts Centre, pronto!

Take a picnic to one of our Royal parks

There are lots of beautiful parks and green spots in west London, from Kew Gardens to Parson's Green , vast to tiny.

Enjoy the fabulous annual Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival takes place annually on the August bank holiday to celebrate Caribbean culture.

London's Afro-Caribbean communities have been celebrating their culture and traditions with the two-day festival since 1964. Around 500 people came then, and now around one million people attend the carnival annually, with the event getting bigger and better every year.

Practise your twerking and head down in August, but a fair warning... This year's event may be ticketed .
